- Black “Winter” Truffles (Tuber melanosporum) with the most famous also known as Perigord Truffles which are grown from December until March in France (particularly in the Perigord region and in The Provence), also in northern and central Italy, especially Umbria, as well as other regions across Spain.
- This fine truffle can also be found in Tasmania and Western Australia during the months from June 'til September.
- Unlike the white truffle, black truffles are more suitable for cooking.
